WOYWW

Having been glued to the TV watching the floods in Queensland and northern NSW (so tragic to see such devastation)  I have to admit .... not a lot is on my desk.  CK mag that I was thumbing through to try to get some ideas for a friend's baby layout.  A couple of ATC resting on a border punch.  A piece of cardstock that I splattered with alcohol inks and then painted over with glimmer glam.  That piece of cardstock is heading for the bin...... I have a 3 product rule i.e. if still a mess after 3 products/techniques then just bin it or give it to kitty to chew.  With this piece I might have to make it a 2 product rule.

My thoughts and prayers are with the people in Queensland and northern NSW who are flood affected.  It is just so devastating and sad to watch what is happening.  A picture for those of you in the Northern Hemisphere who may not be aware of the what is happening in our part of the world.  The flood affected areas in Queensland cover 2/3 of the state that is a hugh land mass.

This is a picture of Ipswich with over 3,000 homes and businesses flooded.  Back to getting news updates ....

  1. I have tried to watch the news about the flooding, well, at least until I lost power, but there is not much on about it. Too much noise about the guy who killed all those people in Arizona.

I have a friend who lives in Australia, and she says they are starving for rain. Why can't the rain come to places where it is needed?

As for my guns. I used to own a business where I was told I should have a gun for protection. It was legal to carry it (because I had a permit) as long as it was in plain sight. I could walk into any store (of course I wouldn't, but I could under the law) with my gun strapped to my belt. Now my state has a conceal-carry law. Anyone who has been certified, can carry their gun in their handbag or pocket. Now THAT is scary!

Your work is wonderful... I agree about the binning rule! Quite a lot ends up in my bin, but you have to try to find out, and you have to practise to get it right!
    Have a great day!

  14. Hi Sandra - Happy WOYWW, and thanks for stopping by. I've been seeing the news pics about the flooding and it's scary, especially considering the size of the area affected.

Love what's on your desk this week, so don't bin it, try another tack...

And in answer to your question about the panto I am... chorus member (as a pirate), proud parent, proud partner, occasional driver, and sword fight choreographer! Plenty to be going on with!

  15. Happy WOYWW. I agree, just bin it if it doesn't work, its only paper after all.

  16. We are so concerned here in England and it is headlined regularly on the news. So scary because of the range. Areas here suffered in recent years but not on this scale. I hope things ease soon and the recovery process can begin.

  17. We really feel for you over here. It is the main news item at the moment and we can't believe it. Where does all the water come from. There are so many weather-related tragedies lately, it is heart-breaking to see it.
Please know our thoughts are with you.

  18. So kitty likes to chew paper, eh? That made me laugh as cats have such strange quirks. Mine used to like to chase tin foil balls. Cheap entertainment. My heart goes out to all those in Austraila too. So sad. Lovely desk. Thanks for stopping by mine. Happy WOYWW! #11

  20. we do need as a world to start thinking a bit more about our world environment.

It is a worry that every year the floods in Asia wipe out entire communities and that we also have communities that are starving for lack of water

the hardship in Haiti is embarrassing

even more embarrassing is the ongoing state of affairs in devastated and neglected New Orleans

in terms of caring for humanity our world leaders are not really up to the job are they?

  22. I love the cardstock that you splashed with the alcohol inks.

I've been following the flooding on the German news since I can't stand the TV news here in the States. My heart goes out to everybody who have lost everything - it's so terrible.

I can only second Doone's last sentence.

  28. Your three product rule made me laugh.

There is extensive coverage here in the UK of the dreadful floods in Queensland. It is truly frightening and our thoughts are with all those who are suffering.

  29. Hi Sandra, Your three products rule is a good idea, but I still think you could save that paper maybe by stamping on it with black ink?
The flood situation is overwhelming. The TV coverage is almost 24 hours here.

  30. Same here! We're getting all the coverage in the USA and it looks horrific. Hard to create amongst the tragedies, but in a way it gets your mind off it too. Hope things look up for everyone this next week! xoxo, #16

  31. It is so sad to see the devastation from the floods, I hope they start to go down soon.
I love your 3 rule... now I should really try and adopt that!! Annette #18

  32. The floods have been so devastating, not to mention lethal and truly terrifying. Such a shame the people who need rain can't get it and other areas are struggling to cope with it all. I've been following it on the British internet news sites as the channels in the US are only interested in sensationalism.

  33. The floods are truly frightening, so terrible for all those people in the area. We do get to see a fair bit on our TV coverage, as we should. I have my fingers crossed as my cousin lives in the area, and we have not heard from him.

Going back to the 3 times rule, I do not bin things unless they have been on the mantlepiece and then changed at least 6 times, and maybe not then. Failed cards I take apart and remake in a different format. Backgrounds can always go darker, and then have mica powder burnished on the top. I am too stingy to throw anything away. It may not fit what you want now, but it could be just what you want for a project next week.

  34. As lots of others have said, in the UK we are being kept very up todate with this terrible flooding and our thoughts and prayers are with all the people of Queensland. Nature can be too cruel.

  36. Hello Sandra...nice to bloggy meet you.
I too have been watching the news of the floods - it is so frightening to think of such a vast area flooded like that. Heartbreaking for those who have lost their homes and posessions. How do communities get back from devastation on such measures...these freaky environmental disasters seem to be increasing at a scary rate, and what real help is there at ground level?
Sorry to ramble on so - I'm following you now so I'll be back to check out your arty stuff! From another Sandra x

  38. we had a similar disaster in the Philippines september 2009 (i wrote a post about it) and i had friends who had the flood water reach the ceiling of the first floor. everything on the first floor was wet and muddy but they were thankful that all their loved ones were safe. so many lives lost and property damaged. some of the very poor who had so little to start with, lost everything. heartbreaking but also inspiring to see how people helped one another and how those who lost so much remained thankful for what they had left, their lives and loved ones.
