woyww - art journal page

The plain water colour page has now turned into a busy art journal page.  Which is really a collection of random thoughts, random stamps, stencils and rub ons.

I am trying Julie Fei-Fan Balzer's online class "30 days in your journal".  She suggests setting a time limit of 10 minutes so that you don't over think.  Well that suits me fine because I have discovered that the mere suggestion of putting my thoughts to paper  rendered me almost comatose. Discovering I have very little to say in an art journal was a light bulb moment, considering I am a bit of a chatter.  Asking the teenager to help me got the response "no one's interested".  So that was that and I moved on ....

A final ATC just using papers and a darkroom door photobooth pic. No involved techniques or verbose thoughts.

Off to visit Julia's world of stalking desks ... in a nice way.

  1. Hi Sandra, The ATC is great! Trust the teenager to tell the truth! The journal page looks really interesting and very creative. Did you only spend the allotted 10 mins on it? I'm not really interested in putting my thoughts on paper either, they should probably stay in my head, most of the time.

  2. Teenagers are just a joy aren't they... sharing our creative world with them is just not quite like anything else... glad you get the journal meltdown as well... I have to be in a perfect mood to attack a journal because I immediately can't think of a thing... never happens at any other time... the page looks awesome though so maybe there is nothing at all for you to worry about!!!

  3. LOL at the teen comment... I have had my share of those over the years!! Your journal pages look very large... I think I would find that much white space staring at me a bit intimidating but your page is beautiful!

  4. Well you can tell your teen that WE ARE INTERESTED!

  6. Great snoop so thanks for sharing and it's interesting what you say. Sometimes it is good to keep to a time band. Years ago, at an art class, the tutor used to make us do the same project in 5 minutes, 40 minutes, 2 hours and the differing results were a revelation. So often the "fast" stuff was better and always freer.
You've given me a great idea re mouse tails. It will be such fun for grandee to be able to pull off those tails!! Have to make a couple of spares though incase they are lost. Glad I forgot them now! Thank you!

  17. I had to laugh to myself at what you said about not knowing what to say in your journal pages - I am exactly the same and it's for that reason I don't do them!
It's nice that you have such supporting family members too - lol.

    Your ATC is lovely.

Thanks for already coming to see my desk :)

  18. I had to giggle at your comment about how putting your thoughts to paper leaves you almost comatose!

I don't art journal but your thoughts to paper comment applies to scrap booking journaling for me. We are birds of a feather after all! teehee

  19. Really inspired by your post, to try my hand at an art journal - lots of people are doing them now and it's such a brilliant idea!!

Thanks for visiting my blog. The trouble is with glass mats, they are pretty heat proof themselves (as are non-stick craft sheets) but they do not protect what's underneath that well. Glass mats with feet (like the kitchen ones) do a bit better, but leave a melting pot standing on one, and a green cutting mat underneath will warp, as it will with heat-gun use for any length of time over a glass mat. This new mat should solve the problem because not only is it heat-proof to 2,000 degrees (including naked flames!) but has high-insulation properties too, so should prevent heat transferance to what is below. I'm hoping to put it through its paces soon.

    Happy WOYWW,

  20. Thats why I could never journal...couldn't write enough to look sensible on a page! Most of the text I use on my stuff is one or two words, sometimes a sentence but no more! Love the page you've made Sandra! Trish #75

  22. great journal page wish I could commit to doing journaling on a regular basis. Love your page

  23. I know where you're coming from. Give me a topic and I can write a page, but just putting down what I am thinking or how I feel and I dry up completely. I'm alright with scrapbooking because my books are each telling the life of one of my sons so far, but i found Art journaling really hard. I hope you come to enjoy doing yours. Kate x

  24. I can write about things that happened, places and all sorts of things, but feelings .... never! I just dry up. It is just not in me. I hope you soon find what you need to fill those pages. Thank you for popping in today and commentling on my cross stitch. Have a good week. xx Maggie #9

  26. actually it is just them that are not interested, and they will be when you are gone, write down the stories you told them, you know the family stuff that made you all laugh, the near misses on holidays, the time you nearly saved someones toothbrush from certain destruction that kinda mindless carp, it looks fab written in journals, or start with a little known fact that amazes you and do a conscious stream of writing, as if you are talking to your most generous friend who listens to your drivel smiles and says - yeah I know just what you mean...

  27. on yes - and the words can come months after the image, so take your journal with you when you are going for a lonesome coffee or waiting in the car to pick up the (late again) kids....

  29. LOL - aren't teenagers wonderful? Doone is right - make sure you journal all the odd stuff! My Dad was forever spilling out stories, and he was going to write a book full of them, but never got round to it. Now, whenever I remember one of his stories, I pop them in a note book for family reference.... LOL

    Love your art journal page...

    Thanks for stopping by!
