woyww - all things metal

My obsession with all things metal continues and yes it could have something to do with my DH tinkering with his Harley outside my window while I craft. I am consumed with picking up bits of left over metal things that I find lying around.  Bits of broken jewelry, computer parts, bottle tops and basically anything that I think I could use to cover a little box.  So what you see on my desk is a partially covered box drying after liberal coats of gel medium.  I will then paint and spray and add gilding wax to those little metal bits until it all blings.

Finished boxes to give you an idea of what they look like when complete.  I had posted a pic earlier but I thought I would post again for woyww.

Still painting poppies ... which is a nice contrast to the metal.

Now I am off to visit the wonderful world of woyww and catch up with all the great ideas on other peoples desk.

  15. I am in serious Lurrrrve with your metal topped boxes!! How amazing are they? The turquoise one is my particular favourite...you are clever to just put all these random things on and they just look right! That's a skill I lack :)
And yes, boilers don't top your necessities list really - but we have really felt the lack of ours this week. Got a new one now, warm again....hooray!

  16. Oh my, these are just beautiful, Sandra, I'm definitely with Jan on the Turquoise one. I wish I lived nearer, I'd be round to riffle through those boxes of yours. I've been hunting metal bits and bobs for a canvas I'm working on. Think I might have to resort to die cuts embossed with metal effects!
Send us some sunshine, I'm fed up with the cold now!!

  21. try using ice resin to get a glass finish on your box tops - substitute it in for the gel mediums - you will be really pleased with the result, all your lovely composition of your found objects will be just as beautiful but much 'clearer' if that makes any sense....only downside ( if youa r eimpatient) is the three days to fully cure.

  22. I think your poppies and boxes are awesome. I love the look of those metal boxes and I am curious about this ice resin Doone is talking about. Will have to investigate that. I have been using Glossy Accents to get the glassy look on my stuff. Have a great week. Thanks for sharing. Vickie #35

  26. The juxtaposition between your two projects is fascinating, if I were a psychiatrist I would be even more interested! Both are fab, love the treatment you give all themetal and stuff, so nice not see them simply covered in metallic grunge colours.

  27. Thanks for popping by Sandra. I think your boxes are wonderful. I particularly like the lime green one. It looks like you have managed to embed metal into semi precious stone. So clever. Happy WOYWW to you from Helen 42
