woyww - colour grid and other things

My messy desk in all its glory this wednesday is showing a colour grid of my travel w/colour box from Sakura.  I have just received my latest online purchases; watercolours, micron pens and Danny Gregory's book "An illustrated life".  Had to open  it and do a quick test of the colours.  Even though I have quite a few tubes of w/colour this little travel box was very cheap, the colours bright and transparent and they shouldn't leak in my bag when I am out and about.

Final pic is an attempt at drawing people and doing it as a gesture rather than getting lost in the detail.  The paper is buckled as I had finished the orchid but added more shading and the paper in the sketch book isn't all that great.

Enjoy your woyww and I hope to visit lots of desks over the next couple of days.

  1. Hi Sandra de, I'm not a painter but sure wish I was....the simple figures "painting" has me in awe, it's fabulous, I can see the action and wish I was strollin' along too. Cool desk and happy WOYWW, Cheers and have a great week RobynO#18

  2. Your wc people are AWESOME. Yep, I love, love, love them. You are gifted. I actually prefer the lack of detail. It makes them more ethereal and impressionistic. WOYWW wishes from # 9.

  5. Oh that grid is SO pretty - it could be the background for an art journal page for sure, or, dare I say? cut up for ATC backgrounds.... :D

    Happy WOYWW!

  6. I'm with Mary Anne! Is it weird of me that I could live with that colour grid as a pic on my wall! I've always loved patterns and abstracts best... You have really caught the movement of the people walking as well...clever gal!

  13. Hi Sandra, Love the new watercolour set, it's so colourful I almost want one too :)
I also like the colour grid because, well, just because it's so colourful. And I think you've captured the figures so well in such a simple way ... less is more! I don't mean simple/easy, more like just a few masterful brushstrokes and that's all that's needed!
Stopped at Fantasia this afternoon. They have a much bigger than usual Sale section at the moment. I expect they have brought all the excess stock from Taren Point and Bathurst :)
    I found a few things I needed :) :)

  23. I didn't notice any mess, I saw those paints and started drooling. Where did you find them cheap??? Every time I find paints they are so expensive. The colours are gorgeous, just love brights. I don't attempt people as they are too hard, you did a fab job with them.
    Have a great week.

  26. I love your people and they are perfect in that landscape. They do not need any more detail. I have never plucked up the courage to work the colours in that way. I still need the prop of pencil drawings first. You are right about the English countryside and this is the season that is most beautiful with bright fresh foliage and the lovely soft primroses and cowslips lining the roadside. I would not want to live anywhere else. Have a good week. xx Maggie #10
