woyww - a teacup or two

This weeks SBS klass has been with Liz Steel and we covered teacups and architectural drawing.  Well to tell the truth I am still struggling to draw an ellipse and getting those teacups to sit on the saucer with some form of perspective and proportion.  My first pic shows the cup and some details that Liz suggests you sketch out quickly so that you understand the cup before you draw.  She manages to drink her tea hot while she is sketching and painting! Mine went cold and I went back to using a mug. The next pic has a wide border because I cannot even draw a straight line but in the end it really didn't matter.
Have really enjoyed SBS.  All the teachers are wonderful and had such different styles and I learnt lots of tips and techniques.  Now I just have to practice, practice and more practice.  Not enough time in the day or night.  Off to join in on woyww and I promise to slowly drop in and visit lots of desks.

  3. Wow! These are fab. Teacups and mugs are a really appealing thing for me - I know not why, and I love these. Really getting a feel for how you've enjoyed the class - and the biro use in your previous post - you'd never know!

  4. What does SBS stand for? Is it an online class? I would love to do it. Looks so nice from what you have shared. #21

  6. OOer, nice cups, missus! Seriously, they are fab - I love the fat bottomed one most, I think it's cos I'm a similar shape!! The biro drawing in the post below is also really clever. I must allow myself some time in the day to do some drawing and painting...I used to do it all the time but never get the chance. Perhaps I need a class to kick start me.
And don't leave your poor little machine in the cupboard...make something, you know you want to!

  8. Not sure I could make a tea cup and saucer look remotely like they should, so well done! Glad you're enjoying the process though. Helen 3

  12. Great sketches if you want to draw a straight line you have to look at where the line will end and it will become straighter at least that's what my art teacher use to tell us it does work
thanks for the visit hugs Nikki 5

  13. I think your cups are wonderful, they are so hard to get into perspective and it sure takes a lot of practise. You did a fabulous job with them. Straight lines are for rulers, I say that cos I can't draw a straight line either :)
    Have a great week,

  14. I think they look wonderful. I agree - straight lines are WAY overated. Wonky is more whimsicle and I prefer it that way.

    Happy WOYWW! a little late

  15. Your tea cups are fabulous but then I am a real tea drinker and adore cups and mugs.
I think the art of tea cups and drinking tea should be relaxed and if I managed to get results like yours I'd be a happy bunny ;D
I really fancy joining in with SBS but missed the boat. I'll have to make sure I join the next term.

  16. Hi Sandra de,

I think your tea cups are wonderful! Art isn't supposed to be perfect; the imperfections, etc., add to the charm. I love the little floral pattern that you've used.

Thank you for visiting me already!
    Happy belated WOYWW

  17. I love your tea cups, Sandra, especially the bottom one. Oh to drink tea out of a lovely cup. I always use a mug but wouldn't it be lovely to go out for a proper afternoon tea with china cups and lovely cakes!!!!!
Hope all is good with you and continue enjoying your art.
    Hugs Lisax

  18. I think you are doing really well with your teacups. I almost picked one up for a drink. DH has now had to put the kettle on as a result.
The only way to get perfection in your own eyes is to try try and try again. Do you really want perfection? Love what you do.
Hugs and Thanks for visiting me whilst I was in deepest Wales - with no signal hence the lateness of commenting now.

  20. I thought you teacups looked really good and at least looked like what they should look like. Gosh that sounds like double dutch. As for drawing a straight line, nobody can do that without the assistance of aids, so you are not along, it is a physical impossibility to achieve. Keep up the hard work it really is paying off and I am with you I am a mug girl.

  21. I really like the teacup paintings and I think you are doing a great job doing them. I can't draw a straightline either but I really think it is more about the fun trying then being perfect. I am really late getting around but thought I would catch up on the comments from last week and this week on my blog post and desk. Have a great week. Vickie #75

  23. Love those tea cup drawings! Thanks for visiting my blog earlier in the week. The secret to using iron filings on cards is to seal them reallllllllllly well lol. I either use a piece of plastic packaging with a generous quantity of glossy accents to seal it to the paper or a stack of card stock to make a well.
