woyww - satisfying week

A productive week since last woyww.  I completed the book I started binding last week.  Even with just 3 signatures I still got a bit lost in the instructions and my coptic is a bit skewif.
Have to admire people who do very intricate binding.
Completed a card which I had originally embossed with the Altenew magnolia stamp on cream cardstock and it looked  a bit flat. A touch of Silks acrylic glaze was added and I am quite pleased with the result.  The Silks glaze blended smoothly with a cotton bud.
Finally, I finished a quilt started by my mother over a decade ago.   Quite satisfying to complete something she started but never got to finish.
Then the washing machine broke and the rest of my days have been about repairmen and cleaning the laundry in anticipation of the repairmen.
Have a lovely woyww week.

  1. Hi Sandra de,
Wow, you've been busy! The book looks great and love the card. I can't imagine it looking flat at all, it's so beautiful! LOVE the quilt that you finished. What a wonderful keepsake.

  2. Hi Sandra, book, card and quilt all look great! You must be thrilled to finish the quilt!
But your washing machine breaking down?! That's my excuse!! Seriously, I have spent days just sorting out the chaos which lives in my laundry and the repair man came today with a satisfactory outcome. Phew! Have spent the last 5 hours catching up on all the washing. So, probably no Woyww this week. (Not that I'm actually doing anything ... just thinking about what I would like to be doing.)

  7. Gorgeous cards and loving the Quilt, brings back memories of my college days. I studied Quilting for my dissertation at college, the techniques still pop up now and then in some of my fabric work.

  8. Oh Sandra, I had a tear in my eye when I read about you finishing your mum's quilt....what a fab thing to do. I wish I could tell my mum (who was a brilliant seamstress) how much I love sewing now. And you kept that sewing fact quiet! I think we need to see more sewing projects on your blog :-)
The book is exquisite by the way - you did a fab job there!

  9. Hi Sandra! You book looks perfect to me! The stitching is nice and regular. Absolutely gorgeous card and it's so touching that you finished your mum's quilt after a whole decade! It must have been a very special project - one to treasure for ever and maybe hand down through generations. Happy WOYWW! zsuzsa @ InkyDinkyDoodle #47

  10. What a beautiful quilt and how wonderful to finish it after so long. As Zsuzsa says, a family heirloom to keep for ever and treasure. It blends well with that beautiful card too. It is a shame you are not happy with your Clarity stamps. Have you looked on Facebook and on the Clarity Challenge blog to see what others have done with them. I find that often sparks new ideas for me to use myself. The heart stencil this month is just stunning. Hope you find a use for yours and have a good week. xx Maggie #27

  11. I tried book binding at the end of last year - I came to the conclusion it is harder than it looks!
Lovely quilt, one for the family to treasure as you both worked on it.
    Happy Wednesday,

  13. Your book looks great, Sandra. Binding is so hard, I don't have huge success either and prefer to use ring binders but sometimes you just have to do it by hand don't you.
Your card is gorgeous, I love the colours and I bet it has a lovely sheen with the silks. I always paint them on with a wet brush, they blend beautifully and how wonderful to finish the quilt, what an heirloom, it really is beautiful.
    Good Luck with the repairmen.

  14. Great job on finishing your book, yes, it is harder than it looks.....grin
Beautiful card, but the quilt takes center stage for me. I love quilts on my bed, rather than acrylic blankets....yuck! I find quilts more breathable and comfy. I have some old left-to-me quilts that are starting to really fall apart........well, shred really...they are so old. Maybe I'll take a quilt class and learn how to make them properly......LOL
Thanks for visiting me this week

  15. Happy colors on that book. I've done several books, always in a classroom setting where I could yell for help if I got lost (which I always do). Your book came out nice. The card is quite sweet too, but oh my, that quilt is so lovely and has so much meaning behind it. Judy #74

  16. From what I see, your book binding skills are pretty decent. After all, it's your first attempt.

What a gorgeous quilt. I guess your quilt project is even older than my 7 Continents, which I started in 2004. And of course, that card is simply stunning. Very feminine, too.

Thanks for visiting while I slept. Happy WOYWW from #2.

  22. I really love your handbound book, and even though you say the stitches are a bit skewif you must be proud on yourself! (My first book had torn stitches, I accidentaly skipped a hole/signature and the book was all wobbly, but I LOVED it!! ) Hope your washing machine is fixed now so you can spend time creating! 28. Sorry for the late visit. Your book turned out lovely and that quilt is just gorgeous. I sympathize with you over the broken washing machine. My machine broke down and I had to get a new one just before Christmas. Thanks for stopping by .

  29. Sorry to hear about the washing machine and a huge success with the blanket getting finished after so long, gosh that must be a wonderful feeling, I have a few jobs my mother left behind and I stll don't have the heart to finish them, I don't think I am ready to let go and she has been gone for over eight years. I love your card to it is so pretty, truly a masterpiece.
