woyww- magnolia blooms

This week I am painting a magnolia and have decided to stick to the "botanical style" white background.  Anna Mason's tutorial offers a sky blue background but, I prefer the simple clean style.  Have just realised that it will be one year next month that I signed up for the online tutorial class with the wonderful Anna Mason.

Thank you to all the lovely woyww's who leave such encouraging comments about my paintings. I almost feel guilty ..... The only reason my paintings are half decent is totally due to a fabulous tutor who teaches a painting technique that clicks with me.  I would love to paint freestyle watercolours and I have tried with lots of frustrating results.

Looking back I can see how much I have learnt this year:
  • Seeing the detail, hue/value in the object
  • sticking to the technique
  • push myself and try hard tutorials
  • join a lovely encouraging community to keep you at your desk on a Wednesday
Have a lovely week.

  1. Happy WOYWW. Another incredible painting. I cannot imagine how you get such a wonderful result on a white background with a pale flower. Watercolour is not my medium of choice. Perhaps I should investigate Anna Mason? Ali x #27

  6. How can we do other than comment favourably about your painting. You have the most incredible eye for detail and whilst I agree there is a lot to be said for having a good teacher you have to have talent in order to be able to paint like you do. Your work really is incredible and I cannot get over the fact that you can paint such a beautiful picture in such a short time. Give me a year and I would not achieve such depths of beauty as you do.

  9. I think your painting are awesome and I think that is what keeps us going is the learning. I have a friend who started taking some online classes this past year and has gone gung-ho into arting it. I think the best artists are the ones that see things as they are and can replicate what they see. A friend and I were having coffee in a trendy new place and I was commenting about seeing something in the decor and she said she didn't see it at all till I pointed it out. You are blessed with the eye! Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a comment. Have a great week. Vickie #11

  11. White on white - hmmm, you don't choose the easy option do you! I can't wait to see how this turns out - your work is amazing and you are so lucky to have found a tutor and style of working that just clicks with you. Even with the best teacher in the world you still have to have the skill and artistic ability to produce these stunning paintings. You've done a great job sticking with it and I've really enjoyed following your journey through the year.

  12. I don't think it matters if you are so good because you have a great tutor - I think you must have at least some fair degree of talent to start with, I don't think with all the tutoring in the world, I would be as good as you. Liking the new magnolia. Helen #1

  15. Thanks for your visit earlier.
Your paintings are so beautiful that you must have the talent inside you that your tutor can bring out all these details. This is a very calming painting. Well done.
    Have a good week

  17. Hi Sandra
Thanks for dropping by. I do admire your tenacity in sticking at the watercolours and your efforts have certainly paid off. (If you didn't have a "real" job I think you could possibly make a living selling them!)
Went to see My Fair Lady last night. Incredibly late, so have only just linked up. That's ok. I don't mind being last :)

  19. It's nice to see your "sketches" and then the finished piece. I've never worked with watercolor except to add washes to paper... I'll have to check out your teacher! Have a great week! Heather (waywardgypsy) #50? #51?

  20. Your painting is beautiful - what else can we say. Unfortunately an over zealous gardener has chopped down my magnolia (just can't work out which one - of course no one will admit to it!!

  24. Something resonated with me about your post - the bit at the end when you mention finding a hard tutorial and sticking with it. I'm terrible at not doing that - if a pattern looks tricky or fiddly, I duck out. I must borrow some of your resilience!! Love the white on white by the way :-D
