woyww - painting a waratah

This weeks desk has a waratah (Telopea speciosissima) which is 2/3 finished.  Painting leaves  currently and the plan is to finish it over the weekend.  The painting and the photo don't quite match as it is a combination of  different photos taken from the internet.  Trying to make sure I don't get  nasty emails about copyright etc.  Not that I have received emails but when the photos have watermarks I just assume credit is due to the owner and I shouldn't do a direct copy.  When I draw up from combinations of photos it can be difficult to capture the light on  the flowers and leaves accurately.  But what the heck it's all good practice.  Yuck just noticed the water jar needs to be changed :o

Have a lovely woyww peek and I promise to pop around over the next couple of nights and over the weekend.

  1. Hi Sandra, you are probably wise to take steps to cover yourself like that. Looks like you are doing an amazing job, despite the difficulties. Have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz #1 XxXx

  2. What gorgeous colours in that flower. I love how you make your paintings so lifelike.
My room has been filled with fabric fun this morning on every surface.....and then I had two customers! So now I have to make room to do their sewing first. I'm not complaining though cos that's what pays the bills .
    Have a great week.

  3. What a beautiful flower. It must be quite difficult to paint from several different images of the same thing. It's beautifully delicate and such a gorgeous colour.
Hope you have a great week,

  8. I remember those flowers when we visited Australia what seems like donkeys years ago now - they are beautiful but complex. You're a brave gal to attempt painting that!

  10. Very exotic flower. Concerning the copyright, I understand your concern, but when you draw it I believe it doesn't fall under the copyright anymore, also if it is for personal use and not for sell I think you're OK, I'd be careful if you use the image as is in your work, but I am no expert, so I could be totally wrong. My jar of water is always in need of refreshing :-) Happy WOYWW, Vicky #5

  13. Another beautiful painting from your desk to ours. What a lovely gift you give us each week.
I cannot imagine anyone talking of you infringing copyright by using their picture as a prompt from which to work. If they do it is a shame.

  14. It's gorgeous, Sandra, although it's not a flower I know. It's looks lovely and exotic. I just spotted your little lady on your shelf like my couple on the window ledge. It's nice to know they link us across the miles. I had to smile at the desk you keep secret, you need to share it with us one day. I'm messy even when I'm painting!!!
    Have a great week
