woyww - happy 2018 ready to paint but tidied the storeroom instead

This month's tutorial from Anna Mason's online workshop is a beautiful kingfisher and I could hardly wait to get started.  But, I got side tracked and tidied up the pantry/store room and two days later the bird is still waiting.  I do have a very tidy store room which makes me feel I have started 2018 by recycling/throwing out the previous years stuff.

The finished fungi composition.

Just wondering if any woyww's have sold craft/art on Etsy and would love to know your thoughts or recommendations for the site.

Happy woyww and I promise to slowly visit over the next few days.

  2. Gorgeous funghi composition! Cannot wait to see the kingfisher - I know you will do a fantastic job of painting him.
New Year is for tidying, but I still have to start mine. Ah well, there is always Spring for cleaning.

  4. Happy WOYWW. I have been gradually cleaning out our pantry, but need to spend an afternoon in there soon and actually wipe down the shelves etc. It is amazing how full it gets! Gorgeous kingfisher so far. I have sold Tarot readings on Etsy - and a very keen buyer on there! Your beautiful art would sell anywhere, so just give it a go. Very simple. Ali x #9

  6. Happoy New Year Sandra. Glorious painting of those fungi. That kingfisher promises to be a beauty! The colours will be wonderful to work with. Never sold on Etsy, or bought either... so I'm afraid I can't help you there.
    Take care. God bless.

  8. Good luck with the Etsy shop - the reason I didn't ever join was that if I typed in Bunting into the search box, eleventy billion stores came up. So, I think you have to cleverly market/title your art so that it stands out - easier said than done, I realise. Good luck though!
That kingfisher will be beautiful - we are fortunate to have a couple living in the harbour in my town. I've never seen them close up just a brilliant blue flash as they whizz across the sea!

  11. ooops, I forgot to answer your question about Etsy, I did have an Etsy, about 6 years ago, before my vision loss was not as bad as it is now. I had a good experience with Etsy, but to be honest 80 % of my sales were from my blog friends , not the blog I have now but my first blog when I was really actively painting and selling my work, its a big world Etsy and if you want to be successful you need to really put yourself out there and promote your work, it was a bucket list thing for me and I made a little money to boot,,only had my shop for two months but it was quite successful, all good, only problem for me was living in Canada our postal shipping rates are crazy high, I also worried about the items getting to the destination, everything a shipped was going so far, it became a bit over whelming and as my vision was fading I closed it. I had no bad things happen and only was a good experience. I know some have had problems but I had known, I sold prints of my paintings, I think I might have sold a couple of originals and I also sold artist trading cards, originals of course,, those were very popular at the time, so thats my opinion,, take care and good luck!ry,, heres my answer to your question about Etsy,

  14. You've got the perspective and the proportions of the kingfisher spot on! I might be able to do that by tracing LOL - it's the colours and the shading that makes it come alive, which is what you do so well. Those mushrooms could easily be professional illustrations in a book! Happy New Year! zsuzsa #19

  20. Yes, a new broom and all that! And every time you go into the pantry now, you can be smug, and that is never a bad feeling over something you’ve done! painting the kingfisher will be a lovely treat now, and I know I’m going to enjoy it vicariously!!

  23. Hi Sandra
I was totally out of internet range last week :) Those fungi look great! Although I'm only familiar with the button mushrooms, they all look so very realistic! Look forward to seeing the kingfisher.
I often look at etsy but haven't bought (or sold) anything. Am always tempted by the hand dyed yarn but once you start browsing it's a bit like "Alice down the rabbit hole", I'm afraid. If you DID decide to sell there it might be easier to just sell within Australia? (The postage and logistics of sending overseas can be rather daunting, I think.)
Oh, and happy new year too, of course :)
