woyww - Merry Christmas

As my christmas day comes to a peaceful end I wish all the lovely crafters in the
northern hemisphere a merry christmas with a touch of
WA red flowering gum (Corymbia ficifolia).

woyww - introducing Rio

His name is "Rio" and he kept me busy painting for a
month of Sundays.

Painting flowers next for pleasant change.
Have a lovely WOYWW.

woyww - quick splash of red

Sometimes it's the quick paintings
 that bring
a sense of satisfaction.

Apologies for the poor lighting.

Happy Woyww.

woyww - card making after a feathery month

A little bit of christmas card making this week.

A refreshing change to painting feathers.

Just in case you are wondering scroll down to see the finished piece.

Quite pleased how the two little birds finished up.

Reminds me of a passage from
the old prayer book....

"He shall defend thee under his wings and
thou shalt be safe under his feathers"

Have a lovely woyww week.

woyww - slow and steady

Slow and steady is probably the most positive way to think about
painting these little birdies.

Hope you woyww is a bit more fast paced.

woyww - the Tawny frogmouth "owl" that is not an owl

The Tawny frogmouth "owl" that keeps looking back at me.

Let me tell you why I missed posting in August.  It's a bit of a long winded story, bare with me or just comment and move on.  I perfectly understand.

Every year I donate a couple of paintings to a fund raiser event  for a local charity and they always do well.  So this year I heard that one of the executives on the charity has a liking for Owls.  So... I launched into getting permission from the photographer to paint the Tawny Frogmouth Owl.  Drew it up and started painting. Only to be questioned by DH "Is it really an owl?" A quick google search discovered DH was on the mark.

Abandoned the Tawny frogmouth owl (a mouthful to say and type) and then painted Tyto Alba (see previous post) and got it framed and to the auction in the nick of time.

But, the Tawny frogmouth owl (apparently not an owl but loosely related to the nightjar!) is still sitting on my desk looking at me. We are not on speaking terms currently.

I have moved on to drawing up ideas for a possible Xmas card workshop.  Amazing the distractions one can find to avoid painting.

Hope your week is a good one.

Barn owl (Tyto Alba)

Tyto Alba aka common Barn Owl.
Painted in the wonderful granulating DS water colours.

woyww - pretty one this time

Time to try and paint a white rose.

Following along in the style of Louise De Masi (Aussie artist) using the wet on wet technique. Her website and instagram is full of great ideas and tips.

Have a lovely woyww.

woyww - Gigi in watercolour

Gigi was a pleasure to paint
and that is because I didn't let her into my studio.

Have a happy woyww.

Wednesday 12 June 2019

woyww - flat lay with cup rings

Was quite proud of my first flat lay until DD pointed out that I have cup rings in the bottom
right corner.  Geez what would we do without daughters.

Gorgeous ATC from Heather and her card made me smile big time.
Happy woyww.

woyww - 520 bits and pieces on my desk

In honour of the 520th WOYWW I have a pic of my desk with lots of mess but also a

"star gem" magnolia coming along nicely.

Happy woyww

woyww - sneer versus teeth

An attempt at painting an almost 2 year old with a "sneer" makes me question why I chose
that photo to paint.

So much simpler to paint Elli with a full set of doggie teeth.

Have a lovely WOYWW peek at desks.
I have set a reminder to come back next week for the 10th anniversary.

woyww seascape

This poor little brush had a workout while trying to capture the details on this seascape on my desk.

I don't think I could fit another wave on this little part of the ocean.  Waves breaking over the sandstone cliffs part of the Kamay, Botany Bay National Park.

Had a lovely day last Friday catching up with Shaz and finally meeting after 6 years of chat on woyww.  Hope you have recovered from your fall Shaz?  Which reminds me to say hello to all the other lovely crafters/artists on woyww.

blue and white crock travels the world

Aiming for a monthly check in on woyww for 2019.  Surely I should be able to manage once a month.  Time will tell.

Painted an old blue and white crock that has been hanging around for decades. Turns out I visited Italy as a child and stayed on a cherry farm not far from where they produce the very Italian "Fabbri Amarena".    But, the crock actually belonged to my DH's family who lived in France for a period of time. Now it is immortalised in watercolour in Australia.

Have a lovely woyww.
