woyww - the Tawny frogmouth "owl" that is not an owl

The Tawny frogmouth "owl" that keeps looking back at me.

Let me tell you why I missed posting in August.  It's a bit of a long winded story, bare with me or just comment and move on.  I perfectly understand.

Every year I donate a couple of paintings to a fund raiser event  for a local charity and they always do well.  So this year I heard that one of the executives on the charity has a liking for Owls.  So... I launched into getting permission from the photographer to paint the Tawny Frogmouth Owl.  Drew it up and started painting. Only to be questioned by DH "Is it really an owl?" A quick google search discovered DH was on the mark.

Abandoned the Tawny frogmouth owl (a mouthful to say and type) and then painted Tyto Alba (see previous post) and got it framed and to the auction in the nick of time.

But, the Tawny frogmouth owl (apparently not an owl but loosely related to the nightjar!) is still sitting on my desk looking at me. We are not on speaking terms currently.

I have moved on to drawing up ideas for a possible Xmas card workshop.  Amazing the distractions one can find to avoid painting.

Hope your week is a good one.

  7. Wow, the owl painting is amazing, bet the auction was thrilled to have that as a prize! The story was entertaining (sorry!) even if it did drive you slightly potty. It's lovely to see you on the desks today, I do miss you!

  8. It certainly has an owl's face but well done to clever hubby. I had a quick look at your other work, all gorgeous as usual. You mentioned about my stash of ready made backgrounds and I have to admit to enjoying making them and the variety of techniques I can play with than making the cards. Hope you have a lovely creative week and a very happy woyww, Angela x13x

  9. You must embrace the owl and get on speaking terms with him! Your talents are really shining through on that one, even if it isn't an owl!

  10. Now I have to look up the Tawny Frogmouth Owl - never heard of him/her and not a clue why he/she is not an owl.
As what they are I love your painting and that is lovely of you to do something to donate for the auction.
Beautiful work as always. Only this afternoon I was showing your card to a friend of mine that you sent with the atc on the 10th anniversary. yes, I still have it standing on the cupboard in the lounge - it is so beautiful.
Your workshop prep is intriguing me, I hope we get to see it when it is made up.
    Hugs & Thanks

  14. Ah so understand why you and the most beautiful bird of Oz tawny frogmouth aren’t on speaking terms, do love them, have seen them around here at night and also when lived down south.
There are also a really big owl that used to sit outside in front making the strangest noises.
Snuck out in dark to ascertain what it was.. just like knocking. And yes it was owl.
Think starting on Christmas cards is productive, not true procrastinating.
Happy WOYWW. Thanks for sharing, Shaz in Oz.x #14
