Now, a funny thing happened while I was reading trashy novels (note to self do not read book 1 if there are 6 books in the series), not blogging and stalling on the steampunk atc.
A colleague (wonderful creative lady) showed me what she does to jumpstart her creative mood. She has been painting with watercolours over old book pages. She finds a word on the page and uses that word or sentence to create around it and over it. Her pages were beautiful, inspiring pieces of art/ journal and poetry all in one.
So, that is what I have been doing. I found an old book and started painting a lovely way to put the trashy novels to rest. Now I am back at my desk and playing with words, paint, paper and text all over again. For added inspiration I have also been peeking around at everyone's desk. It doesn't get any better than that on a Wednesday.
I love book pages too! This is a fab idea and looks like you have found a gem to keep you sweet!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your desk today. Sarah at 2.
i'm forever trying to find new authors with more than 1 book in the series, lol.
ReplyDeletelove what you are doing with the pages

great looking pages you have started there. I love to read too and recently got started on historical romances and vampire romances. Interesting trashy books to read. Love the Sherilyn Kenyon books. Vickie
ReplyDeleteWhat a good way to inspire creativity :-)

Now that sounds like fun!

Reading book one of 6 is better than reading book 6 and then discovering it is book 6....
ReplyDeleteLove your painted page, have fun!
I LOVE long series... but can't create on old pages... it's a don't-destroy-your-books-thingie from childhood... but I LOVE what you are doing...

Love Helen's comment above - lol! Ah, the lure of the trashy novel, the literary equivalent of a Mars Bar. You know you shouldn't.. but....
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!! xx
What a FAB idea! It makes me want to run and start already..amazing how these things ping in your head!! No doubt that the ATC procrastination will be over too, spect your steampunk will be great.
ReplyDeleteLol! I know what you mean about the book series. :) Great technique on the book pages.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds fun Sandra, and as you say, a great way to recycle old books.
ReplyDeleteWhatever you do thought don’t do Gone With The Wind, you might lose all your pages, Lol!
Happy Crafting!

How wonderful your idea is! Love what you are doing here...looks fabulous! Have a great Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteHi Sandra, That's a good idea with the watercolours. I've been trying to get over the idea that you shouldn't tear up, or generally "destroy" old books. I'm nearly there!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea - would love to see what you then do with the pages - Hazel WOYWW #65 x
ReplyDeleteI have a pile of old books (old as in old but not valuable old just old...) that this would work well with!! I used to devour trashy romance books... such a harmless form of escapism for a summer afternoon or a winter evening in front of a crackling fire...
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, I will start straight away!! (Probably not, I used to love 'altering books when I was little...got really told off for doing so!! Have to find out about Steampunk the team I'm on want to do 'something' with it?!??
ReplyDelete(Happy WOYWW!)

That a great way to jump start the old mojo, glad to see you've picked up the paintbrush again.

I am a big fan of altering books, and I have run out of trash to alter - Niall has locked the book cupboard in fear for his first editions, I must get to the charity shop soooon,

Love the book pages and it is just a great idea. I'm reading a novel with the odd title, One Fine Day In The Middle Of The Night' by Christopher Brookmyre for the reading group. Odd title, odd book but oddly funny too - well, it makes me chuckle. When I've read it I might try altering it - could be a fitting end ;) Elizabeth x #70
ReplyDeleteThat is a great idea, I love that. I will try that out - gorgeous. I can see how your creative juices get flowing again with this when you're stuck. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteaha, a new way to encourage oneself to get up and do rather than decorate the scenery and read a book... smiled a the comments above Sandra, thanks so much for popping over, happy WOYWW! Shaz in Oz.x
ReplyDeleteI think that is a great idea! I also put wall putty and gesso on old book pages that I won't read again, so I have a huge pile of pages to use for my journals and other projects.
ReplyDeleteNow that sounds like fun! Not to mention inspiring, intriguing, creative......
ReplyDeleteMight have to give that a try!
Thanks for stopping by..........
Lol at the trashy novels! And good on you, finding a "better" use for them! This is definitely something to try. I've got a big thick book I got for pennies on Ebay (ex-library copy, falling apart) of a rather odd Victorian style novel which I won't be reading again, and the paper is good quality so I thought I'd use it for art.
ReplyDeleteThe trouble is with this sort of thing, if I sat down to paint a page, I'd end up just reading it and not getting on! Like when you're trying to wrap up some rubbish in an old newspaper and suddenly last week's news becomes utterly fascinating.
For an inveterate hoarder, the Mixed Media Artist's motto of "Never throw anything away" is not doing me, my sanity, my hubby's sanity, or the strength of the upstairs floorboards, any good these days!!
what a fun idea ...must get some old books ... that are not important...and see what developes
