What is on my desk this Wednesday? Well an odd collection of things a few mechanical watch bits, several old hat pins, stamps from a package and an old book. I am on a journey to make an altered book (my first) and I cannot wait to start. Elizabeth is going to show us how and as I have never done one from scratch so I am keen to learn.
I found these wonderful watch bits in a small junk yard along a NSW country road. Yes, I made DH stop and wait while I rummaged through boxes of junk (aka vintage goodness) to find these, a few hat pins and old books. Only a crafter would understand the need to rummage through junk, because you have decided to make an altered book, rather than sit in a cafe.
Another ATC .... this time just playing with a metallic painted background.
Come join in the WOYWW fun and show us what you have on your desk.
Like I said, wow, love the watch parts. I would like to make jewellery out of the metal innards. (But don't know where to start.) There is a fabulous junkyard out at Londonderry, so I believe, if you feel up to a trip out there one day!
ReplyDeleteOOOOh you lucky lady! Those are true treasures! I am also going to do the book thing...looking forward to it too.
ReplyDeleteLove the watch parts and will be watching out for what you do with them :-)

I'd love to get my hands on your watch parts!! Looking forward to the book class.
ReplyDeleteWow! What a lucky find, I'm never that lucky. Are you going to use them in your altered book or are you 'saving' them. I'm also joining in with Elizabeth's book tutorial, have my book (stitches as required) ready and I think my theme will be 'time' or 'steampunk'.

Those were lucky finds!! You have way more patience than me to go searching through 'junk' but you've come up trumps. I'm looking forward to seeing these altered books, especially the steampunky ones - what is it about cogs and gears that is so fab??
ReplyDeleteHugs, LLJ #58 xx

Lead me to the junk so I may rummage! I found Ebay was a good source for watch parts - I have loads at home so am fully steampunked up! LOL
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the altered book - I'm still trying to summon up the courage to "deface" a book in the name of art - we have a nice one that's a double at home...
Thanks for stopping by!
oooh those 'ingredients' sound good!! Have fun with the altered book!
ReplyDeleteErm Cafe, coffee? er not if theres a chance of increasing my stash!! oh Hold on a minute was there cake on offer? Coz cake would have swung it for me, lol

Love the watch findings--I've found the coolest things rummaging through boxes of junk--all sorts of one of a kind little metal things.

Thanks for the peak of your desk on this WOYWW.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great find Sandra, good luck with your book.
I’ve never been brave enough to attempt anything like that myself, I don’t think my own particular style would transfer to it to well, but love to see what others do.
Beautiful card by the way, I love the colour.
Happy Crafting!

What a great find ...I was thinking about broken watches and junk shops the other day.
ReplyDeleteLook forward to seeing your altered book, those bits and bobs were great finds. Thanks for sharing & enjoy this WOYWW, I'm off to be nosey, & peek at some more desks! Zo x 83, well I was when last looked, it keeps changing!
ReplyDeleteIt is true that non-crafty people wouldn't understand a great rummage through a junk yard. Why do we allow these people to live on the same planet as us?! You got some great finds there for sure. Good luck with the altered book. I'm sure you'll have fun. Once I got over the "defacing a book" bit I enjoyed the one I made.
ReplyDeleteI love your story about going thru the junk...only we would understand!
ReplyDeleteHave fun with the altered book...so far it looks great!
Great finds. Can't wait to see the finished project.
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely old watch bits and bobs. It will be fun to play and create somethng new with them.
ReplyDeleteThe clock parts look fun, i can't wait to see the results. #77
ReplyDeleteOooh, looks interesting!
ReplyDeleteOh, love your ATC!!!! I sold a bunch of cheap watches at a yard sale last year. At the time I didn't know anything about steampunk - or the value (decorative, that is) of my watches. Aw well, live and learn. I go to our tiny thrift store most Saturdays.... love it!

ReplyDeleteCold here visiting Germany .....

those watch parts would be sold for tens and tens of pounds in a 'craft' shop, excellent find,
ReplyDeleteYou will have a fabulous time learning about book altering with Elizabeth too,
the blue is so vibrant because of the green base colour, it is really important to choose what colour you use as a base - white is useless it 'steals' the pigment and lightens tone - experiment in your book - you will be stunned at the difference the base colour can make to the top colour (unless you use very heavy body acrylics they cover anything soldily)

Oooh you're doing well with gathering bits for your AB project. exciting isn't it, I'm off into town to scour for stuff myself this weekend! Love the metallic blue of your ATC ground...how do ya do that then?
ReplyDeleteLove the watch parts. A small altered book is on my list to do too. But I can't keep up with comments on Wed and Pinterest the rest of the week. So guess I'm dreaming!!!! Enjoy
ReplyDeletewhat a great finds. it's the little incidental finds that i get the most excited about.
ReplyDeleteHappy WOYWW! Enjoyed my visit. love the watch parts!
ReplyDeleteOh LOVE! All things I love, book altering, watch parts - yum! Kim
ReplyDeletePretty atc - love the background colour you have used on it. Gorgeous watch finds, I love watches and would have a massive box of them if I could find the mechanical ones but these days I don't seem to have the luck.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your visit, but not sure why you would like the snow - am late this week (jet lag and just got back Wednesday) - Hugs, Neet xx

I'm always looking out for watch 'bits' Was quite pleased when I found a nice 'old' watch in a draw...but it had a battery in it, so the tarnish was just dirt! Sorry I'm so late for late weeks and weeks before, but family troubles kept me away.
ReplyDeleteHappy Very Late WOyWw
