woyww - rocks and water

My painting of Malabar headlands while standing on the rocks is now at the framer and no longer on my desk.  But, I know woyww is easy going.  Using Daniel Smith granulating watercolours provided interesting effects on the rocks.  Very happy to have used my own handmade red and yellow ochre watercolours in the foreground rock.  Still working on getting the watery painted effects.

Enjoy your week as you peek at everyones desk.

  1. Well, I've never heard of granulated watercolours before! You live and learn..... so pleased that your own paints made into the painting as well. It's a great view btw, I could live with that on the wall!

  3. Well I thought it was a photo. And then..huh? Granulated water colours. The things you didn’t know you didn’t know. I expect all serious artists know about them. Really nice to use your own paint in a real painting, such a nice thing to loook at something and say ‘I did that’ and mean it right down to the making of the colour. You’re amazing!

  4. Ah well done you, Sandra.. when saw your rocks, wondered if youd used your ochre! That's a first for you! Own paints made by your fair hsnd as well as Daniel Smith's! Mind you I too have never heardof him ir granulated water colours!
I took delivery of a 24 set by Gansai Tambi, I was particularly interested because reviews said they were opaque rather thsn translucent, ie more like gouache it sounded like to me. Yet to try properly. Just did colour pallette.

Thanks for sharing, and may God bless you.

  5. Sandra, that picture is absolutely stunning... I really love the intriguing rock formations in the foreground and you have captured them superbly. Ochre is a favourite colour of mine, and well done for designing your own. I just love this painting...

Thank you for your visit, and yes, Lily and Ruby do rather steal the show, don't they! My hubby and I keep saying how thrilled we are with them, that we really fell on our feet with these 2 kitties, and we love them so much! They are our babies and we can't imagine life without them now. They are endlessly fascinating and entertaining and I've taken soooo many photos of them! I'm glad you like my Celtic patterns too.

    Happy WOYWW,

You have a very special talent, thank you for sharing it with us all.

  21. Just saw this as I visited today's WOYWW (I was AWOL last week!) - I thought it was a photograph at first - it's absolutely amazing, I have no idea how you have made the rocks look so rock like! I am super-impressed that you are using your own hand-made colours too.
