woyww - blooms and bush

Participated in my first Zoom online workshop with Alina Koo and painted a pretty rose.  Trying to loosen up and let the watercolour flow.

Currently working on a commission and have been asked to paint a Golden Wattle.
Taking my time and will post a photo once completed.

Last week had me wandering the countryside and social distancing was very easy.

Seriously thinking of signing up for a watercolour landscape workshop once the restrictions lift.

Another photo of the township of Bunyan, NSW, sadly they are still in drought.

Final photo

of the slipper orchid which blooms without fail and makes me smile every year.

Have a creative WOYWW week.

  1. The painting of the rose is stunning. I love your orchid...I planted up several I've got a couple of weeks ago and they are all shooting out new flower stems now :-) The views of the world around you look very scorched and dry but would made wonderful paintings I'm sure.

  3. Hi Sandra. A beautiful rose, and incredible landscape shots - the town is certainly in drought, as you say. Fantastic orchid. Have you painted that one as well?? I love orchids - they were my hubby's favourite plants.
Take care. Stay safe. God bless.

  4. Oh wow, that rose is gorgeous!! You can paint anything Sandra, so I'm in no doubt that you'll crack landscapes just as well.

  5. This rose is amazing, your technique just gets better and better. Now! I am rather jealous of the slipper orchid as I stopped buying them as I didn't have much luck with them and this is gorgeous. Have a lovely and creative woyww, Angela x19x

  6. What a beautiful rose! The landscape is certainly inspiring there, even though it is so dry. I can remember walking around Hanging Rock on a very hot day and remarking how dry everything was, certainly a change when we went up to Queensland! Have a great week, Lisa-Jane #14

  7. Wow, that rose is stunning. The scenery is beautiful and I can see why you might want to take up landscapes , there is something quite wonderful about the colours in your photographs. I don't do house plants as I always kill them (with either too much kindness or too much neglect!) but always envy anyone who can manage to grow orchids - especially such a gorgeous one as that - and look at all the flowers on it - amazing!
Hope you have a lovely week,

  8. I was going to say your rose is stunning but Diana beat me to it LOL - so I had to come up with another word: breathtaking - which is exactly what it is! I just love those soft blended colours - I'm a big fan of roses, anyway! Your countryside looks very different from ours - I hope you get some rain soon! We need more of it as well - our grass is all burnt out! Happy WOYWW and thanks for your visit earlier! xx zsuzsa #24

  9. Gorgeous rose - I'm afraid my own watercolour is already pretty loose - I'd call it splodgy! Hope you get some rain soon. Happy woyww Cindy #11

  11. What a beautiful orchid you have there - and thanks for the photos of your walk, shame about the drought though. I hope they soon get rain.
Well Sandra, that is an absolutely beautiful rose and I cannot understand why you need a class with your skills. I can understand you doing one for landscapes as I imagine it is vastly different to your flora and I hope you thoroughly enjoy it and can learn something. I just think you are super talented with a paintbrush.

  12. Your rose is beautiful, a wonderful painting. The slipper orchid is a beautiful plant, recently I go rid of two orchid plants that were dying off. They flowered twice a year sometimes -sigh! The news has been full of extremes, droughts, fires, floods. All very devastating for man and beast. Hope it rains soon. Angela #33

  17. Beautiful watercolour! So soft, it looks real! It looks like it would be difficult NOT to social distance where you live! Have a wonderful week, Lindart #29

  18. Wow, amazing what you painter types can achieve from one lesson! Beautiful rendition Sandra, love the soft velvety colouring. I know I should notice drought in your pics of Bunyan, but what instantly struck me was the huge sky. So.much.space.!

  19. Your paintings are exquisite, Sandra, and this one is no exception. Lovely to see some of your surroundings too - but doesn't it look dry! Everything so brown... Stunning views, though.
