Finished a small coral painting to join the sea urchin from a couple of weeks ago.
I plan to experiment different ways of framing watercolour paintings. As you can imagine a considerable amount of time spent googling and you tubing for ideas.
Hopefully I will have something to show in the coming weeks.
Did manage to complete a small handmade watercolour set for a gift.
The painted lid gives you an idea of the colours in action.
The top 3 colours are store bought pigments and the triad have a fine consistency.
The bottom 4 pigments are made up of:
Vivianite (Australian Blue Ochre),
Terracotta clay pipe
Brown/Pink ochre found in Tumut (NSW)
Sea urchin quills
No matter how much I hand grind the stones/quills I can never seem to get a super fine consistency. Now that is OK as it makes them handmade LOL.
Hope you are having a safe and creative week.
Well, it wouldn't look handmade if it was all smooth would it? Just like everything else you could get in the shops and a Sandra De original is so much better xx. Love the coral, it really does look like a tree!

It took me a while to realise the colour names were not names but actual ingredients! How lovely?! It's a beautiful and very useful gift. Have a fabulous week, Lisa-Jane #2

ReplyDeleteHi Sanda, thats a beautiful gift for someone, and as you say, inconsistences are part of being hand made.Hope you find the bleed proof white, it is very consistent for not picking up other colours. Stay Safe, Have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz #7 X

ReplyDeleteI just think you are wonderful making your own colours whether it is granular or not. Lovely painting on the lid and the coral is beautiful. Such a wonderful talent.
ReplyDeleteDo take care of you and yours and stay safe. Not sure where you are in Oz but did hear Melbourne was not good. Same here, our town is mentioned as one of the ones giving concern which is why I am a bit worried about the hospital.
Hugs, Neet 4 xx
Your DIY watercolour paints never cease to amaze me, Sandra. Such dedication to your art. Your artworks are always absolutely fabulous too - I love the recent sea-themed ones and the coral is beautiful with its subtle colour gradation. The little painting set is such a treasure with your own work involved both inside and out, and is sure to be greatly appreciated by the recipient.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your visit - I'm glad you liked my pictures and I hope to have made a start on the embroidery by next week. For the past few years I have had an increasing interest in health and nutrition and do quite a bit of online research into it - I think ultimately my interest began due to my own poor health, and gradually being led into different avenues of interest through discussions with various people. I discovered the whole-food plant-based lifestyle just through looking up a recipe on YouTube, and my eyes were out on stalks!!
Happy WOYWW,
