woyww- insipid still life

Nothing very exciting on my desk this week.... Titled "insipid still life".

I am still plodding on with the watercolour class. The latest painting is fairly bland as I am only up to the second wash of  prussian blue.  Hopefully the shapes and shadows will start to form as I lay more colour and then it will be more inspiring.  Or I can continue to dream.....

Next week should be far more exciting as I will be doing two classes with the wonderful Finnabair from Warsaw.  I couldn't miss an opportunity to take a class while she is in Sydney.  I love what she creates with all those bits and pieces of metal and rubbish.

woyww- wet on wet

My finished "wet on wet technique" drying on my desk.  The idea being you wet the paper and then add brushes of watercolour and see what happens.  An exercise to empty one's mind and go with the flow.  As you can see my mind was a pine forest.

Most of my desk is covered by the painting board. But you can see my handy paper towel with gumnut motifs  (I often notice prints on paper towels when I visit woyww... strange I know!) and my bottle of water.  Bottled water is frowned on in our house.  But it has stopped me washing my watercolour brushes in my drink.
Finally a pic of my craft room floor with kitty sound asleep with twitching paw. I hope to get around and visit a number of desks on woyww for a dose of inspiration.

woyww - watercolour grid

Still playing with watercolours and what you see on my desk is the completed glaze grid on a fairly tidy desk.  I had already started to pack away when I took the photo and there was an amazing mess to produce one A3 grid.  Even though the book is on the left it has nothing to do with the grid.   I am actually attending a series of classes on watercolour and this was one of the techniques we did on Tuesday.  Having access to a teacher is wonderful  and having a class of like minded "would be watercolourist's" is really inspiring.

Now I am planning on slowly visiting a number of desks on WOYWW over the next couple of days.

woyww - brights and gelli plate

The beginnings of a gelli print.  Striving for a monochromatic  effect as I do tend to go overboard with colours.  If you doubt me check out the tags I made using the portfolio oil pastels inspired by Paperartsy tutes.

So not a lot happening on my desk but I am sure woyww will have lots of great ideas.  Join in courtesy of Julia

woyww - mess

The desk is a mess since I am back at work.  What you see is stuff on top of other stuff all waiting to move when a space appears in another spot.  A bit like musical chairs with a mad rush at the end for the little chair to park your bottom.  I am now painting on a small easel which DH bought as a surprise.  Well I was surprised ..... who would of thought online shopping would be his thing?
The completed box from last week as it waits for its final coat of sealant.

woyww - all things metal

My obsession with all things metal continues and yes it could have something to do with my DH tinkering with his Harley outside my window while I craft. I am consumed with picking up bits of left over metal things that I find lying around.  Bits of broken jewelry, computer parts, bottle tops and basically anything that I think I could use to cover a little box.  So what you see on my desk is a partially covered box drying after liberal coats of gel medium.  I will then paint and spray and add gilding wax to those little metal bits until it all blings.

Finished boxes to give you an idea of what they look like when complete.  I had posted a pic earlier but I thought I would post again for woyww.

Still painting poppies ... which is a nice contrast to the metal.

Now I am off to visit the wonderful world of woyww and catch up with all the great ideas on other peoples desk.

woyww - metal mania

Trying out a technique called "clear embossing & wax" the results is a lovely metal finish on cardstock.
A close up of the atc's backgrounds.

I stamped an image with versamark, sprinkled clear embossing powder and then used the heat gun.  When cool lightly rub gilding wax over the embossed image.  I used antique gold and silver "rub & Buff" which gives a dull metal look rather than a bright gold.
