woyww - sweet pink rose

A completed rose is sitting on my desk this Wednesday.  Happy with the end result which was painted over the Easter weekend.  The leaves took ages ... in the end I missed some of the veins.  So don't look too closely :) Once again all credit to Anna Mason's online classes.  This time I painted from the reference picture and relied on what I have learnt from previous tutorials.

A woyww desk photo to keep in the spirit of the post.

woyww - happy easter

My painting desk is pretty much at a standstill as I have finished painting and waiting for those big eggs to dry.

Close up of the completed song thrush eggs from Anna Mason's May tutorial.

Turned out to be a lot trickier than it looks.

Happy woyww and happy easter

woyww - bits and pieces

A birds eye view of the bits and pieces on my other desk.  Repurposing old watercolour backgrounds and bringing out a collection of lovely dies (thank you RosA).  Hopefully inspiration will strike and a few ATC's will be the result.

Hope you are having a great woyww.

woyww - 2 little christmas roses

Two little hellebores painted over the past fortnight.  A short post for woyww as it has been a busy week with work and family activities.  I shouldn't complain about work as it funds the painting and craft.

Happy woyww and I promise to visit over the weekend.

woyww - flowers, knitting and a dissected pear

Wednesday's desk is a mix of things this week.

A wonderful photo of 2 pretty Christmas roses (Hellebors) from Angela's garden. Looking at how best to compose these sweet flowers before I start painting.  Thank you Angela for sharing this photo with me.

Last nights attempt at knitting a baby beanie is still lying on the desk.  It has been years since I knitted so I am starting with a basic no fail pattern.

Final pic is the completed dissected pear from last week.  All in all a productive week.

Visits to woyww desks will be a slow meander over the weekend.

woyww- painting a pear

Not a lot on the desk.  A print out of this month's tutorial, left over paper from last painting, water pots, brushes and paints.  Far too many interruptions today resulted in no decision being made about whether I paint the pear.    Will pop around and visit desks over the next couple of days to look for inspiration.

Have a great woyww.

second attempt at an apple blossom

Finally finished the second attempt at the apple blossom.
All credit to Anna Mason's tutorials.  I never get tired of painting.

woyww - quick cards and blossoms

A birds eye view of my desk with the bits and pieces necessary for card making.  Since I started painting flowers, card making is fairly simple.  Scan and print the painting onto heavy cardstock and mount on a card.  Easy peasy.

First layer on the apple blossom.  I gave the original away and decided to paint another one just for me.

Have a great woyww.

Quietly splashing paint

A quiet Sunday afternoon has seen the completion of the amethyst.  Not a subject I will be rushing to paint again but very satisfying learning how to paint a different texture.

woyww - amethyst

Lots of interruptions this week means the amethyst is slowly crystallising!!  Hopefully the weekend will see it completed as I am over the half way mark.  Visits to other woyww desks will be slow and steady of the weekend.

Have a great week.

woyww - a rock of amethyst

The desk is set up is the same arrangement every week, except this month the reference photo is a piece of amethyst.  I suspect all those little geometric bits of rock will drive me crazy by the end of the week.  But I am prepared to give it a go and follow along with Anna Mason's teaching.

Often when I post the comments are so full of praise for my talent.  Almost feel guilty to tell you I have very little talent.  I do have a strong desire to paint and dogged perseverance as I follow along with an excellent teacher.  Since committing to classes with one teacher I can really see an improvement in my paintings.  The next photo is an example of my first attempts to paint poppies.

The poppies were painted around 2013 or 14 and it was only when I discovered botanical style painting in the last 14 months that I think my skills improved.  Now I am absorbed by looking at the detail in one flower, petal or leaf and find painting the detail quite relaxing.  That style may not be for everyone and that is ok.... as I so admire all the wonderful mixed media art people post and it inspires me to have a go.

Looking forward to visiting desks over the woyww week.

woyww- a succulent!

Painted a succulent for this months tutorial.

But, got into a pickle with the green I choose.  Anna Mason uses Winsor Newton w/c paints and I use Daniel Smith and usually I can remember to substitute WN names for the ones I am using.  Not this time.  Happily painting away and realised half way through I was using the  wrong green.  These days I just keep going ... finish the job and move on to the next painting.  Life is too short to stress about mistakes.

Happy woyww and I promise to slowly visit lots of desks over the next couple of day.

woyww - painting set up

Not much changes week to week at my desk so I thought I would show you a close up of my painting set up.  Plate, plastic water containers, paint tin and plate cover all purchased from the 2 dollar shop which means I can save my money for Daniel Smith w/c and really good w/c  paper.   I used to use up rolls of paper towel with every painting.  Now I only use a couple of sheets wrapped around a toilet roll which absorbs most of the moisture when I wipe the brush.  This means I only have to change the paper roll when it starts to look really bad.  I generally put out the w/c I am going to use around the plate  and mix the colours on the open space.  Leaving the unecessary colours in the tin (with the lid closed) stops me trying every colour in the one painting.  A fairly simple system that seems to be working for me.

Finally a big pic of the cupcake.  Really pleased how all the different textures turned out
Have a great woyww week.

woyww - a cupcake and other things

Painting a delicious cupcake and I decided to leave out the bits of blueberry in the icing.

January's tutorial is a succulent and I can't wait to get started.

Repainted the cover of my faces sketchbook.  Much happier with this version.

Finally a pic of the two kookaburra's we were feeding while on holidays.
Back to work next week.
